Updates for Dad: Late to the conversation

Y'know when you catch wind of a conversation you'd be the ultimate authority on, and you totally want to get in and impose your opinion on everyone else's and "enlighten" them and stuff? But then you find a natural opening and either:

a.) Everyone remembers that they have work to do.
b.) You totally misheard everything, and now it's all awkward.
c.) you came in on the tail end of the conversation.

Either way, *sad trombone noise...

(Note: I used "nerd" because I am one, and only a nerdy/geeky topic will get me so excited. You can use whatever shorthand you want)
