Description

So, if anyone is interested, here's my influence map. These are the ones that I can trace back directly for why my style is the way it is. They didn't just influence my illustration; A bunch of them influence the way me as a storyteller and animator. I wonder if they come through in my art?

In the chronological order in which I became acquainted with them:
1. Fleischer bros. Superman cartoons: Rotoscoping done well.
2. Batman: The Animated Series: your hero must be in actual danger for us to care about him. Also, silence is unerving.
3. DragonBall Z: It's where I first started learning anatomy!
4. Super Mario Bros.: Imagination is an amazing tool when you use it well
5. Tae Kwon Do: posing's easy when you've been forced to do it a million times for that next belt/to avoid being kicked in the face.
6. Sonic the Hedgehog: the Sonic CD Opening AMV. 'nuff said
7. Spider-Man: Everybody loves the underdog. Especially when its "Spider powers" vs. "lightening/desert personified"
8. Genndy Tartakovsky: Silence is golden. Having Highs and lows will keep your audience interested.
9. Skottie Young: heroes don't have to be built like tanks.
10. Humberto Ramos: Be expressive! Get your point across!
11. Darwin Cooke: Retro with a strong line
12. Mike Kunkel: Its like animation. only in a comic book.
13. Stuart Immonen: sharp and crisp, and no one really looks like anyone else.

There's a lot of people unlisted, unfortunately. Most of them are my professors from Art School. Anybody who has ever corrected me, or taught me something new. And of course, every piece of work I have seen. These are just the direct influences (that come to mind directly).

Here's the link to the original if anyone else wants to do this: [link] It's interesting to learn why people draw the way they do!
